"SCALE'S"

The numbers chart show's the basic "Diatonic scale's".

Diatonic refer's to the "intervals" of the natural scale.

Starting at middle C and playing C-D- E-F-G-A-B-C, will produce the "Diatonic" or "natural" scale.

The interval's between these notes will be the basis for the other scales, and will explain the "#" character and the "b" character a little better. Let's break down the intervals of the "Diatonic" scale.

The C has an accidental in-between it and the D, so from the C to the D is two half-steps or a "whole-step".

Write this down on your scratch paper as C whole-step D.

From the D to the E is also a whole step!

The distance between the E and F is only a half-step.

So you should have, C whole-step D whole-step E half-step, written down. I would like to abbreviatte the word "whole" with the letter "W" and the word "half" with the letter "H". Just so we can put more on the pages that we are working on.

If we continue in this manner, the inter- vals of the Diatonic C scale will read as follows; C W-step D W-step E H-step F W-step G W-step A W-step B H-step C.

Using these same intervals, all the basic diatonic scales can be built.

Let's see if we can do the G scale. The first note that is needed will be the note G.

If you wrote the notes and intervals down, you can write the notes of the G scale down below it.

Like the example below.

C W-step D W-step E H-step F W-step G W-step A W-step B H-step C
G A B C D E F# G
